SHICKSHINNY &#8211; Jeremy Walsh set the tone early.Two rushes, two touchdowns.Yeah, that&#8217;s a pretty good start to the day, and the Northwest Area senior quarterback got better as the night wore on.Walsh scored twice in the fourth quarter as Western Wayne crawled back, down just six entering the final 12 minutes. The Ranger QB finished with nearly 170 yards of total offense en route to a 27-7 victory Friday night.It was the first victory for Northwest and head coach Lon Hazlet.&#8220;Jeremy is a leader, and it&#8217;s evident that he&#8217;s a good football player,&#8221; Hazlet said. &#8220;More than that, he&#8217;s a fine young man and a good leader on this team. For us to go places, he has to lead us. We are an inexperienced team, and we have some guys that need to be leaders on this team. Jeremy is one of them.&#8221;Walsh was the difference.He ran for 93 yards and four touchdowns, while completing 6 of 9 passes for 78 yards.His first score &#8211; a 12-yard keeper off tackle gave Northwest a 7-0 just five minutes into the game. On the Rangers&#8217; second drive, a series that went 47 yards in five plays, Walsh got a great block from tailback Jake Anderson and receiver Ezra Judge as he went 24 yards to paydirt.Just like that, Northwest (1-2) &#8211; which had tough losses to Lakeland and Dunmore in back-to-back weeks, had a 13-0 lead with 2:50 left in the opening period.&#8220;We are a team,&#8221; Walsh said. &#8220;It takes a team to score. The offensive line blocked great. The wide receivers and the backs did great. I don&#8217;t get those touchdowns without all those blocks. It just all came together tonight. We made less mistakes compared to the first two weeks. The seniors fired up the underclassmen. We weren&#8217;t going to let this one slip away.&#8221;Western Wayne (1-2) made it interesting.Junior quarterback Scott Walck, who threw for nearly 250 yards on 20 completions, found receiver Kenny French on an out-route for the 10-yard score as the Wildcats cut it to 13-7 late in the third quarter.Again, Northwest had an answerWalsh scored his third touchdown, a short 1-yard burst just two plays into the fourth to increase the lead back to 20-7.The Rangers salted it away in the fourth. After stopping WW freshman back Kobe Sauter on a fourth-and-3 from the Northwest 15, Walsh led his team on a long drive.Fourteen plays, 10 of those runs by either Walsh or back Garrett Reese. Nearly 85 yards of turf covered. More importantly, it ended in a 2-yard score and took nearly seven minutes off the clock.When the quarterback ripped in the end zone with 2:41 left, the Rangers were well on their way to win No. 1 of the 2015 season.&#8220;We&#8217;ve been through some wars in the past few weeks,&#8221; Hazlet said. &#8220;We are a little battle-tested. Our kids played right to the end, and I was happy to see how they bounced back after Western Wayne scored. That&#8217;s something we talked about this week. We are very proud of them.&#8221;Reese and Anderson combined for 104 yards on the ground for the Rangers.
