Peeking into the past

First Posted: 11/19/2013 With Week 11 in the books, the playoff picture in your league should be starting to shape up&#8230; for some of you. The rest of you are probably in a dogfight just to sneak into one of the final playoff spots. I&#8217;m sure these next few weeks will be rocky, so buckle up and hang on tight because this is when your player movement can really start to make a difference!
Grab &#8216;em while ya can:
Bobby Rainey (RB-Tampa Bay): The Buccaneers&#8217; offense has taken on a whole new look since Week 1. They have a new starting quarterback, new starting tight end, and they are on their third starting running back. Former third stringer, Bobby Rainey, took over the starting gig after injuries took Doug Martin and Mike James off the field. Rainey was incredibly impressive in his first career start. Rainey totaled 167 yards and three touchdowns on a whopping 32 touches. There aren&#8217;t many backs in the league that see that many touches, but Tamp Bay doesn&#8217;t have many other options. We can expect Rainey to lose a few touches to Brian Leonard as the weeks progress, but Rainey should carry most of the load for Tampa the rest of the way.
Miles Austin (WR-Dallas): Miles Austin was surely drafted in your league, but there&#8217;s a good chance he has been dropped by now. He has been out for almost two months and the manager who originally drafted him has probably moved on in frustration. I personally added him in my league simply because I know what he is capable off. He might be eased into the Cowboys&#8217; offense this week, but you can expect him to line up in the slot or opposite Dez Bryant for the rest of the year. Sure, there are injury concerns, but if you have someone under-producing or wasting space on your bench, a speculative add of Austin could pay off down the stretch. For what it&#8217;s worth, he is shockingly only owned in 26 percent of all Yahoo! leagues.
Delanie Walker (TE-Tennessee): Over the past few seasons, I watched Walker back up Vernon Davis in San Francisco and wondered when he was going to get his shot to start elsewhere. Walker stumbled out of the gate during his first season in Tennessee, but he has found the endzone three of the past four weeks, including a monster game this past Sunday (10 grabs, 91 yards, and a touchdown). We all know Ryan Fitzpatrick is a check-down machine, so look for him to target Walker early and often as the season moves on.
Leave &#8216;em behind:
Jarius Wright (WR-Minnesota): Jarius Wright had the single best game of his career this past week. This game will most likely go in the books as the single best game he ever plays. His flukey two-touchdown performance has led to some owners grabbing him from the waiver wire, but you should do yourself a favor and forget about him. The quarterback situation in Minnesota is absolutely dreadful and it won&#8217;t be getting better anytime soon.
Chris Ogbonnaya (RB-Cleveland): This past week, Ogbonnaya almost eclipsed the triple-digit mark in yardage. He totaled 99 yards on 14 total touches. This has prompted almost 4,000 team managers to pick him up in Yahoo! leagues. The Cleveland running back situation is incredibly murky with no back willing to outperform the others. Ogbonnaya, Whittaker, and McGahee will form a three-headed monster that will do nothing more than plod through the backfield and leave fantasy owners unsatisfied. Keep moving folks, nothing to see here.
Marquise Goodwin (WR-Buffalo): After Goodwin&#8217;s six-catch, 81-yard, one-touchdown performance against the Jets, fantasy managers started to pick him from the wire in hopes of finding lightning in a bottle. I usually don&#8217;t have many good things to say about the players in this section, but I will applaud Goodwin on his speed. He is an absolute BURNER. He torched Jets&#8217; corner Antonio Cromartie for a 43-yard touchdown in the third quarter this week. His downfield speed leads to a decent upside, but I&#8217;m not committing a roster spot to Goodwin until I see a little bit more out of him.
Hot start of the week: Case Keenum (QB-Houston) &#8211; I know he got benched this week. I know Gary Kubiak hasn&#8217;t committed to a starter yet. I know the Texans&#8217; offense is in a whole world of hurt right now, but just hear me out. Schaub showed (again) just how inept of a quarterback he is during the second half of last week&#8217;s game against the Raiders less-than-stellar pass defense. I know Keenum wasn&#8217;t having a career game, but his benching was unwarranted. I think Kubiak (with his job on the line over the rest of the season) will make the smart play and give Keenum his starting job back. With that being said, Keenum will have all the motivation he needs to tear apart the Jaguars&#8217; horrendous pass defense. Look for Keenum and Andre Johnson to explode this week.
Sit &#8216;em this week: Philip Rivers (QB-San Diego) &#8211; Rivers is having himself a tremendous season. The coaching staff has changed up their schemes and injuries forced some youth into the Chargers&#8217; starting lineup. All of this has paid dividends for Rivers and his squad. As we saw this past week against Miami, the banged-up offensive line led to numerous hurries and took Rivers off of his game. That won&#8217;t change this week against Kansas City. The Chiefs&#8217; defense leads the league in sacks and takeaway and they will have a field day with the banged-up offensive line the Chargers will bring with them to Kansas City.
