First Posted: 11/1/2013 Actors Circle will present the holiday classic &#8220;Miracle on 34th Street&#8221; at the Providence Playhouse starting Thursday, Nov. 14. 
John Arena will be reprising the role of Kris Kringle, who goes from retirement home patron to Macy&#8217;s Santa Claus and helps a little girl, Susan Walker played by Olivia Smith, discover the wonder of Christmas.
&#8220;He is so perfect as Santa. He captures that essence of Kris Kringle,&#8221; said Cathy Rist Strauch.
Strauch, the director of the play, worked as a producer on &#8220;Miracle on 34th Street&#8221; the last time the Actors Circle put it on 10 years ago and she decided that this year was a good time to bring it back.
&#8220;I&#8217;m typically the holiday person lately. It&#8217;s a matter of what haven&#8217;t we done in while, and that hasn&#8217;t been done in a while, so I decided to bring it back,&#8221; said Strauch.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a nice way to get you started for the holiday season. The whole spirit of (the play) is about how Christmas is about giving and getting rid of commercialism.&#8221;
The production features a large cast many of whom have never participated in a play before.
&#8220;I am happy (to get) newcomers involved in acting, and &#8230; to bring quality performances at a reasonable price to all of Northeast PA.&#8221; said Strauch.
&#8220;My main goalis to allow all who came out for the show a chance to take part in it.&#8221;
Actors Circle will perform &#8220;Miracle on 34th Street&#8221; at the Providence Playhouse, 1256 Providence Rd., Scranton, Thursday, Nov. 14. through Sunday, Nov. 17 and again Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Nov. 24. Shows begin at 8 p.m. Thursdays Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors and $8 for students. Ticket prices for the preview show on Thursday, Nov. 14 are $8 for general admission/seniors and $6 for students.
Following the performance all of the children in the audience will have the opportunity to meet and get their picture taken with Santa Claus.
