LEHMAN TWP.: Penn State Wilkes-Barre students and faculty members were honored in January at the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors (PSLS) annual conference.Three Penn State Wilkes-Barre students earned top honors in the PSLS 2015 Student Paper Competition. Kevin Katchko, Sweet Valley, received first place for GRAV-D; Theodore Frear, Factoryville, earned second place for Height Modernization; and Heather Nicholson, Lehman, received third place for Feeling the Effects of Glacial Isostatic Adjustment. Winning papers will be published in the 2015 issues of The Pennsylvania Surveyor. Nicholson is the president of Lambda Sigma, the National Surveying Engineering Honor Society.Penn State Wilkes-Barre students Gregory Copelli, Kersey; Theodore Frear, Factoryville; and Alexander Wood, Jeannette, received PSLS Foundation Scholarship Awards. The scholarship recipients are chosen by the Foundation&#8217;s board of trustees based upon achievements, content of responses, grammar, presentation and an adviser&#8217;s evaluation.Brian Naberezny, instructor of surveying engineering at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, received the President&#8217;s Award for his contribution to PSLS. The award is given to recognize any individual or group who has contributed beyond expectations while serving their term in office.Naberezny and Thomas Seybert, professor of surveying engineering, also received the Distinguished Service Award, which is given to members of PSLS who have provided an exceptional contribution or service to the surveying profession and have been nominated by an active PSLS chapter. Charles Ghilani and Wesley Parks, former Penn State Wilkes-Barre surveying engineering faculty, also received the Distinguished Service Award.
