The Nuremberg Community Players, Inc. will present the comedy &#8220;American Idle,&#8221; at 7 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24 and at 3 p.m. Oct. 25.Tickets are $10 and can be reserved by calling 570-788-4411.The performance, co-directed by Kathy Rhoads and Carl Rumble, will be held in the new home of the Nuremberg Community Players, their theater located at the former St. Joseph&#8217;s Catholic Church, 283 Hazle Street, Nuremberg, Pennsylvania.The plot centers on clinical psychologist Dr. Bruno Slacker (Ed Samler), who has been trying to find his way to Easy Street all his young life. Having pursued one hare-brained scheme after another to get rich quick, he&#8217;s finally hit on a scheme he&#8217;s sure will work. Convinced Americans work and worry too much, Bruno claims, (on national television, no less) that if they&#8217;d only become idle, they&#8217;d live longer.To prove his point, he invites eight ambitious subjects to spend a week in &#8220;Idle House,&#8221; his version of &#8220;Real World.&#8221; The eight contestants&#8217; mission is to learn to live without goals, a seemingly impossible task for these go-getting young adults, including college students (James Wright &amp; Carl Rumble), cheerleaders (Kim Gatski &amp; Kaylee Chyko), a florist (Tisha Demshock), a sporting goods store owner (Doug Demshock), a Swedish chef (Josh Rushinock), and an interior decorator (Diane Rumble) who instantly sets off to redecorate Idle House.Nurse Nancy (Michelle Wysoski), a former drill sergeant, is to make sure that if any subject&#8217;s vital signs go up too high, they&#8217;re kicked out of Idle House. Any subjects who can last the week will split a million dollar prize. Unfortunately, Bruno doesn&#8217;t have a million dollars, his mother (Brenda Sachleben) is trying to undermine his project, and his subjects can&#8217;t quite leave the real world behind them &#8212; sneaking boyfriends, assistants and partners into the picture to complicate his experiment. By the time the wacky challenge reaches its conclusion, only one surprising subject is left standing.Additional characters are a talk show host (Becky Nenstiel), a housekeeper, (Becky Shuman), an assistant chef (Jamie Linford), a cheerleader&#8217;s boyfriend (Todd Statudo), a photographer (Barbara Bartusik), a worker for the interior decorator (Jacob Sachleben), a cameraperson (Jacob Sachleben), and a physician (Emerson Lindemuth).&#8220;American Idle&#8221; is produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc., Englewood, Colorado.
