Shooting claim sends Wilkes-Barre businesses into lock down

<p>Investigators are seeking more financial records in their investigation into missing funds from Exeter Borough Hose Company No. 1.</p><p>Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis said Monday that investigators sought a search warrant for bank records from 2007 to 2011 in connection to $59,660 of allegedly misappropriated fire department funds.</p><p>The documentation, filed with District Judge Alexandra Kokura Kravitz, was not yet available Monday.</p><p>Attempts to reach Exeter Borough Hose Company No. 1 by phone Monday were unsuccessful.</p><p>According to Salavantis, former department treasurer Stephanie McNeil remains at the center of the probe. The company voted her out of office in November.</p><p>McNeil, 33, of Exeter was sentenced in July to spend two to 12 months in county prison on charges stemming from allegations she stole her wheelchair-bound mother-in-law&#8217;s credit card and racked up charges in excess of $500.</p><p>She was arrested in October 2014 and pleaded guilty in May to two felony counts of access device fraud, one misdemeanor count of possessing an access device without authorization and one misdemeanor count of theft.</p><p>According to a criminal complaint, McNeil visited her mother-in-law on Oct. 14, 2014, after which the woman reported her wallet and piggy bank were missing. The wallet contained $80 in cash, a debit card and other personal items.</p><p>Police determined a total of $552 in unauthorized charges were made on the woman&#8217;s debit card that month.</p><p>McNeil initially told police that she was concerned nurses were stealing from her mother-in-law, police say. When questioned further, she allegedly confessed to using the card, but said that her mother-in-law gave it to her to buy groceries and Christmas gifts for her children.</p><p>She allegedly told police she only used the card once. When investigators told her of the additional reported charges, a tearful McNeil said she used the card two more times.</p><style>
