HANOVER TWP. &#8212; It&#8217;s understandable if last season&#8217;s devastation weighed heavily on the Meyers players&#8217; minds.For five weeks, this year stayed exactly on script: three victories to start the season, cataclysmic injury to Mark Robinson, damaging upset loss to Lackawanna Trail, hard-fought shortcoming against Lake-Lehman. Averting the rest of that story &#8211; a seven-game losing streak to close the season &#8211; was essential, a moral victory, for the Mohawks.Meyers changed its fortunes with a 28-14 victory at Hanover Area Friday to put an end to a two-game losing streak.So feel free to forgive the Mohawks&#8217; jubilation, the student section Chop Shop for rushing the field, or their singing of the Alma mater at midfield.For the first quarter of Friday&#8217;s game, it seemed the Mohawks were on course to share a similar fate as 2014. Hanover Area&#8217;s rushing attack plugged along steadfastly against a defense that seemed to have no answers. Tyheim Taylor scored a 4-yard rushing touchdown, and Brandon Brueckner caught a 25-yard screen pass from Jake Peters. Hanover Area trounced the Mohawks 14-0 after 11 minutes, 30 seconds.Meyers finished with 28 consecutive points to end the game. Jason Marston scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the day. Marston ended the scoring drought with a 3-yard score with 8:36 remaining in the first half. After a penalty turned away a would-be Raheem Twyman receiving touchdown, Marston scored the game-winning touchdown on an 11-yard bruising run with 5:08 left in the third. He capped his night off by bursting for a 37-yard rushing touchdown with 4:58 left in the game.Marston had a game-high 139 yards rushing.Trailing by a touchdown late in the second quarter, Fahbian Biggs took over the reins and carried all 66 yards of the Meyers&#8217; drive en route to a 6-yard score to tie the game. Biggs racked 132 yards on 17 carries.&#8220;(Marston and Biggs) have been working hard all offseason, waiting for a chance to take advantage when they got the ball,&#8221; Meyers coach Jeff Labatch said.Hanover Area pressed in the late stages of the game, but a Meyers secondary that battled all night long in the air came through with four big stops. Janssen Wilborn&#8217;s excellent coverage prevented a touchdown in the corner.The Hawkeyes&#8217; receiving corps posed problems for the Mohawks.
