Bob Quarteroni: NRA’s stance indefensible in wake of yet another mass shooting

A year or so ago there was a young school boy who chewed on a Pop-Tarts pastry and made it look somewhat like a gun.I saw a picture of that Pop-Tart and it did look sort of like a gun, if someone were to point that out. But it still looked like a harmless Pop-Tart to me.The boy was treated like a criminal and suspended from school. How stupid it was for anyone to have a reaction like that over a Pop-Tart. Yet no one spoke up and admitted how stupid it was. It was just swept under the rug.Last month, another boy, who just happens to be a Muslim, showed up at school with a small suitcase. When he opened it to show it to his teacher, inside were gadgets attached to all kinds of wires. Her reaction was to immediately call the authorities and have it checked out.I also saw a picture of that suitcase, and if I were her, I would have done the same thing. It looks like it could be a bomb. She did the right thing.The boy was taken away in handcuffs. Was this swept under the rug and forgotten? No way. We are now hearing from protesters claiming racial profiling and overreaction. This boy turns out to be a hero and has even received an invitation from President Barack Obama to visit the White House.Now, let&#8217;s see if I have this right. We have a president who has no problem with children being punished for chewing on a Pop-Tart, but if a child shows up at school with a suitcase full of gadgets and wires, he invites him to the White House and pats him on the back for being so smart.This is the same president who is making a nuclear deal with Iran, which includes side deals the details of which even Congress doesn&#8217;t know.Do you feel safer now than you did seven years ago?Donald BuckinghamMehoopany
