In a <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/467197/luzerne-county-council-incumbents-urban-brominski-snubbed-by-democratic-committee" target="_blank">news article</a> on Sept. 27, the Luzerne County Democratic Party chairman said I did not receive an endorsement for re-election because I openly stated I would not support incumbent Tim McGinley. That is 100 percent correct.I refuse to support anyone with a record such as his.McGinley voted for every tax increase proposed by the manager, voted to sell Valley Crest at one-third of its appraised value, and voted to give away more than 1,700 acres of forestland to the state, of which 500 was Moon Lake Park. The same Moon Lake that we have a $24 million bond on and which is the collateral for the bond. We are still obligated to pay the bond even though we gave away Moon Lake.The biggest slap in the face to taxpayers was McGinley&#8217;s vote to eliminate the homestead provision, which raised the taxes of 88,000 homeowners by $57 per year. (The other approximately 88,000 properties were not raised one cent.)The Democratic Committee seems to feel that my refusal to endorse or run with McGinley is a good reason not to support my re-election. What about the complete disdain he has shown for those who pay the bills for this fiasco we call home rule? The Democratic organization endorses raising taxes and continued support of the manager who has put us $16 million in further debt.McGinley has never once been part of a reprimand of the manager for failure to meet deadlines or present truthful responses.McGinley never supported the idea I presented to seek a grant to make Moon Lake a Wounded Warrior year-round retreat, or get the area&#8217;s tech students to fix the electrical, plumbing and wood work of Moon Lake and make it a credit course for those who participated. I also proposed looking into the selective foresting of Moon Lake, but the decision to give it away (to the state) chased all interested lumber entities from coming in. At the same time, he never presented one idea for increasing county revenues, except to tax the people.A vote for McGinley is a vote for stagnation. Your taxes will continue to be increased as long as he has the title &#8220;councilman,&#8221; and I reject him and all he stands for.I do support Stephen A. Urban and Stephen J. Urban for re-election. We represent all the constituents of Luzerne County regardless of political affiliation, sex, color or religious choices.Edward A. BrominskiSwoyersville
