ASHLEY: St. Andrew&#8217;s Episcopal Church, 12 East Kirmar Avenue, Alden, is sponsoring the Blessing of Animals at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18. Father Charles Warwick welcomes the public to bring their animals to be blessed.If you chose to, bring an item to be donated to a local animal shelter. Examples of items: non-clumping clay cat litter, dry adult cat or dog food without red dye, canned cat or dog food, dry kitten or puppy chow, collars and leashes, pet shampoo without pesticides, paper towels.EDWARDSVILLE: The Ethnic Committee of the Dr. Edwards Memorial Congregational Church, Church and Main streets, Edwardsville, will hold their 31st annual Gymanfa Ganu at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25, in the sanctuary of the church.The director of this year&#8217;s Gymanfa Ganu is attorney Jay G. Williams III from Clinton, New York. He has been involved with Welsh activities in Central New York for many years.Accompanying attorney Williams on the organ will be Mrs. Barbara Futchel of Plymouth. The Orpheus Choral Society, a musical group begun by Welsh coal miners and now a mixed chorus, will present special music.Following the hymn sing there will be a Te Bach (Welsh Tea) in the Sunday school room. Homemade breads, cheese, jelly, and Welsh cookies will be served under the direction of Mrs. Eleanor Vojtko and Mrs. Betty Jones.All are invited to attend this event; a free will offering will be taken.WILKES-BARRE: &#8220;The Scariest Stories: Witch Hunts,&#8221; a free lecture open to the public, will be presented by The Rev. Brian Pavlac, Ph.D., at St. Stephen&#8217;s Episcopal Church at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 30.The illustrated talk will discuss when and why Christian authorities began to believe in, fear witches, and the persecution of accused witches. This is a horror story based on historical fact.A brief penitential service will follow. Fr. Pavlac is a professor of history at King&#8217;s College, Wilkes-Barre, and is the author of the book, &#8220;Witch Hunts in the Western World: Persecution and Punishment from the Inquisition through the Salem Trials.&#8221; For more information call St. Stephen&#8217;s Church, 570-825-6653.
