Pennsylvania House designates Oct. 24 as World Polio Day

HARVEYS LAKE &#8212; During Tuesday&#8217;s meeting, the borough council unanimously voted to eliminate the per capita tax beginning in 2016.Councilman Tom Kehler described the tax as a &#8220;nuisance tax&#8221; that will not benefit the borough. Since the county will &#8220;no longer be handling the per capita tax, the borough will have to handle it, and it is not cost effective,&#8221; Kehler said.Councilman Daniel Blaine reminds residents that the yard waste composing site on State Route 118 is available for the disposal of yard waste materials, such as leaves, grass, shrubbery, garden residue and other vegetative materials.No commercial haulers are allowed and participants must bring proof of Harveys Lake residency.The site will also be available for the disposal of Christmas trees, Blaine said. The site is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays 1, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. The contest is open to all ages. Prizes will be awarded by age group.
