KINGSTON &#8212; The Perkiomen Panthers came charging out of the gates to the tune of 22 points in the first quarter en route to a 36-8 win over Wyoming Seminary at Nesbitt Stadium on a chilly Friday night.Panther quarterback Brett Ciocari led the way in the first half with two scores through the air and one on the ground.And perhaps one of the more extraordinary scores came with 1:25 left in the first quarter when senior captain Jack Flynn blitzed in and scooped up a fumble.&#8220;That was definitely the turning point of the game for us,&#8221; Seminary coach Jeff Holloway said. &#8220;It was unfortunate because it was the first pass play that we called on the night. And we were starting a player for the first time at quarterback, things like that might happen.&#8221;Perkiomen came in the matchup on a three-game win streak, having outscored its opponents 94-14.&#8220;I give Perkiomen credit as they came in and played better than I expected,&#8221; Holloway said. &#8220;We changed up our defense a little to protect the inside, so kudos to their coaching staff for going to our outside then.&#8221;Sem almost scored just before the half when senior Robbie Mericle hauled in a 47-yard pass. The Blue Knights barely missed a field goal attempt three plays later from 30 yards out.Sem&#8217;s Connor Switzer started to give the Panthers fits on back-to-back plays when he made a big sack that caused a fumble but was ruled down. He followed that with a tackle for a loss pushing Perkiomen back to the 20 at half.&#8220;Switzer is a fighter,&#8221; Holloway said. &#8220;We show signs of doing some things very well. We just need to string it together. As we all know that&#8217;s just inexperience and youth. When you have veteran players you don&#8217;t make as many mistakes.&#8221; We&#8217;ve got to continue to fight and I&#8217;m proud of my guys for fighting.&#8221;On Sem&#8217;s last possession of the night, they went to work and earned five more first downs on a 12-play drive that culminated when senior captain Greg Kleinsmith barreled up the middle from 20 yards out closing out the scoring 36-8.&#8220;We were continuing to fight in the fourth quarter. We had two opportunities earier when we dropped two touchdown passes,&#8221; Holloway said. We have to get better this week and not make as many mental mistakes.
