News for Seniors

The Senior Peer Counseling Program (SPCP) is looking for seniors 60 or older who would like a visit from a trained volunteer to socialize and offer support for an hour each week, sharing skills and experiences. Some people experiencing life changes or minor emotional issues would rather discuss their concerns in a confidential setting at home instead of a mental health provider in an office setting. Trained Senior Peer Counselors visit for an hour each week at a mutually convenient time to offer this service.Male and female seniors 55 and older who drive are also needed as Senior Peer Counselor volunteers. Registration for the next series of training classes is in progress. SPCP of Community Counseling Services, Luzerne and Wyoming counties, selects volunteers to provide companionship to individuals. Volunteers benefit from learning new skills and offering their personal service as they are trained in topics related to mental health and aging.There is no cost to participate in this program.
