Meyers celebrates Homecoming Week

Emotional wellness through artwork to be topic of Nov. 12 presentation in Edwardsville

<p>JIM THORPE &#8212; One of rock music&#8217;s seminal events will be honored with a party, free natural food, and a concert at the Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe at 8 p.m. Nov. 7.</p><p>The &#8216;The Band&#8217; Band will perform a tribute to The Band&#8217;s legendary farewell concert, known as The Last Waltz with doors opening at 7 PM at the Opera House, located at 14 West Broadway, in Jim Thorpe. In keeping with the spirit of The Last Waltz, the Opera House will offer a complimentary pre-concert hors d&#8217;oeuvre buffet provided by Jim Thorpe&#8217;s 14 Acre Farm. Beverages, bar and desserts will be available for purchase.</p><p>The Band&#8217;s farewell concert took place at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco on Thanksgiving Day 1976 and featured a Thanksgiving dinner for 5,000 attendees.</p><p>It represented the artistic culmination of The Band&#8217;s storied run with the original configuration of Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, Garth Hudson, Levon Helm and Robbie Robertson. More than a dozen special guests performed, including Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, and Neil Young. It was famously immortalized in Martin Scorsese&#8217;s documentary film of the same name, which is considered by many to be the greatest concert film ever made.</p><p>While The Band may be long gone from the stage, The &#8216;The Band&#8217; Band keeps their sound and spirit alive with authentic, true-to-form renditions of their legendary repertoire.
