<p>The Wyoming Area School Board on Tuesday unanimously approved an $850 payment to the Internal Revenue Service to allow the Wyoming Area Foundation to apply for charitable, nonprofit status.</p><p>Once established, the body will be associated with the Wyoming Area School District, though not controlled by it.</p><p>Once achieving a a 501(c)3 status, the Wyoming Area Foundation will be able to solicit donations from community individuals, businesses and organizations that will directly benefit the students of the school district.</p><p>District officials announced several upcoming community events:</p><p>&#8226; The Parent Teacher Organization of the Sarah J. Dymond Elementary School is partnering with Pennsylvania Power and Light to present a &#8220;Community in Action&#8221; forum at the school on Sutton Creek Road in Harding at 6 p.m. Nov. 4.</p><p>Families that attend the forum will be given advice on cutting utility costs and will receive kits with energy-efficient products. The Dymond school can receive up to $1,000 for hosting the event.</p><p>&#8226; The Montgomery Avenue Elementary School PTO will sponsor a canned food drive from Nov. 2 through Dec. 25. All food will be donated to the West Pittston United Methodist Church.</p><p>&#8226; The Montgomery Avenue PTO held a coat drive from Oct. 13 through Oct. 23, with all donations benefiting the Kid&#8217;s Closet at the St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston.</p><div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta><p>By B.
