Trial set to begin Tuesday in baby suffocation death in Nanticoke

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8211; The Movember Foundation grew from a 2003 conversation in a Melbourne, Australia bar. The first observance of the month-long November event included 30 participants and was held to raise awareness for the mustache as a still-viable male accessory.</p><p>2004&#8217;s Movember event included 480 participants (Mo Bros) and took on a charitable mindset, raising $40,851 for men&#8217;s health projects. The event was exported to the United States in 2007 and in 2014 The Movember Foundation was named the 72nd non-governmental organization in the world.</p><p>Some Times Leader Media Group employees have chosen to take part in this year&#8217;s iteration of Movember. We&#8217;ve added a slight variation as colon cancer has personally touched the lives of some, so money raised will be donated to an organization in support of colon cancer research.</p><p>I haven&#8217;t chosen to take part, which is why I&#8217;m writing the story, but other brave souls like reporter Travis Kellar have gone bare-faced to raise awareness for men&#8217;s health.</p><p>&#8220;Movember is about men&#8217;s health so I do it for that,&#8221; Kellar said. &#8220;I&#8217;ll try to eat healthier and not splurge so much during the holidays. I also wanted to see how big I could get my beard to grow in a month since I usually have one during the rest of the year.&#8221;</p><p>The Movember Foundation contributes to projects in four different areas of men&#8217;s health: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and physical inactivity. Mo Bros and Mo Sistas can raise money by becoming part of the Movember Foundation&#8217;s donation drive efforts or by raising money themselves and donating directly to the foundation.</p><p>Times Leader circulation manager Jim McCabe&#8217;s goatee has seen a lot. It has been with him while he raised three children and it has seen the fall of the Berlin Wall, but on Nov. 1, 2015, it finally fell to the ground.</p><p>&#8220;My wife and I have been married for more than 20 years &#8230; she&#8217;s not liking it without the beard,&#8221; McCabe said.</p><p>McCabe&#8217;s father passed away from colon cancer, which is the second most common type of cancer in males in the United States.</p><p>&#8220;That&#8217;s where all his cancer started before it jumped to his liver,&#8221; McCabe said. &#8220;I&#8217;m on board all the way.&#8221;</p><p>McCabe is currently accepting donations in a coffee can which will be donated at the end of the month.</p><p>Check Times Leader every Tuesday during November for more information about supporting members of our staff during their Movember charity drives and to stay updated on the progress of their facial foliage.</p><style>

We&#8217;ve decided to donate the money these men raise to benefit colon cancer research.</p><p>Some shaved off the facial hair they were willing to part with and then promised to not put razor to cheek again until Dec. 1.</p><p>Jim McCabe, circulation manager, shaved off 20 years worth of beard. Other staff members, including Travis Keller, Russ Hryvnak and John Gordon shaved off lots and lots of facial hair.
