JACKSON TWP. &#8212; The preliminary 2016 municipal budget will be available for public review in December, Allen Fox, township supervisor said Monday.The Jackson Township Board of Supervisors met Monday morning for a brief meeting to authorize the treasurer to prepare the 2016 municipal budget.Resident Ed Chesnovitch asked supervisors if &#8220;this time, can we (the public) view the budget in time to know if there will be a millage rate increase and what it will be?&#8221;The municipality is required to have the proposed budget available for public viewing at the municipal office 20 days in advance of approving it, Jeffery Malak, township attorney, said.&#8220;If there is a millage increase, it will be spelled out,&#8221; Malak said.&#8220;We did a good job on the 2015 budget,&#8221; said Fox, vice chairperson of the board of supervisors and municipal treasurer said. &#8220;We (the township) are doing OK.&#8221;Last year, the municipality approved a $1.47 million budget containing a millage rate increase from 1.58 mills to 1.82. A mill is a $1 tax for every $1,000 of assessed property value.&#8220;I have an idea of where we are going, but I don&#8217;t know yet for sure,&#8221; Fox said. &#8221; Denise (Rittinger, township secretary and assistant treasurer) and myself are working on it.&#8221;Fox estimates the proposed budget will be available at the municipal building for public viewing by Dec. 1.Supervisors will vote on the proposed budget at 9 a.m. Dec. 21 at the municipal building.The next monthly township supervisor meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Dec. 7 at the municipal building.<div class="metaInfo"><bylineMeta>By Eileen Godinegodin@www.timesleader.com</bylineMeta></div><div class="metaInfo"><shirttailMeta>Reach Eileen Godin at 570-991-6387 or on Twitter @TLNews.</shirttailMeta></div>
