Middle school gets 50 computers, thanks to WVW Education Foundation

<p>With every game the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins win to add to their current run, the motivation builds among their opponents to be the team that stops the streak.</p><p>That&#8217;s what the Penguins can expect from the St. John&#8217;s IceCaps, who travel to Wilkes-Barre for a two-game stretch at the Mohegan Sun Arena beginning Wednesday.</p><p>&#8220;We had a good start to the season, teams know it and they&#8217;re going to bring their A game,&#8221; winger Tom Kuhnhackl said. &#8220;Teams want to be the one that breaks our streak. Hopefully it&#8217;s not St. John&#8217;s.&#8221;</p><p>The Penguins have won six straight - the longest active win streak in the AHL so far this season, and they&#8217;ve done so by defeating some strong teams. Last weekend, they downed a Hartford team that was right behind them for first place in the Atlantic Division.</p><p>The IceCaps are in second place in the North Division and have one of the most potent offenses in the conference.</p><p>&#8220;We have six periods against them so we have to send a message early in the first period,&#8221; Kuhnhackl said. &#8220;We haven&#8217;t seen them this year so we have to come out strong.&#8221;</p><p>The Penguins enter the midway point of their current seven-game homestand and haven&#8217;t lost since the second game of the season in Bridgeport. Veteran defenseman Steve Oleksy said despite the success, the Penguins know they can play better and one particular element has given them the confidence to do so.</p><p>&#8220;The chemistry in the locker room. Early in the season you&#8217;re never sure how the personalities are going to blend, but the staff has done a great job bringing everyone together,&#8221; Oleksy said. &#8220;We&#8217;re all on the same page and working toward a common goal.&#8221;</p><p>That goal is the reason why head coach Mike Sullivan isn&#8217;t as concerned about the opponent as he is the play of his team.</p><p>&#8220;We always want to be respectful of our opponents and we understand there&#8217;s a lot of good teams out there. St. John&#8217;s is one of them and every night is going to present a challenge,&#8221; Sullivan said. &#8220;For me, what&#8217;s most important is to make sure we understand what our identity is and how we have to play. My objective every day is to come to the rink and get better.&#8221;</p><p><strong>NOTES</strong></p><p>- St. John&#8217;s changed affiliations in the offseason, switching from the Winnipeg Jets to the Montreal Canadiens. D Will O&#8217;Neill spent the last three seasons with St. John&#8217;s in the Winnipeg organization, and even though his teammates from last year moved to the Jets new AHL affiliate in Manitoba, he said Wednesday&#8217;s game is a reminder of his time with the IceCaps.</p><p>&#8220;I still have a lot of friends in the St. John&#8217;s area and I had an awesome time there,&#8221; O&#8217;Neill said. &#8220;It will bring back a lot of memories.&#8221;</p><p>- D Barry Goers, who hasn&#8217;t played this season due to an injury, still isn&#8217;t close to returning to the lineup, Sullivan said on Tuesday. &#8220;I feel for him. It&#8217;s a tough thing when you get injury early on and haven&#8217;t had an opportunity to get into a game yet,&#8221; Sullivan said. &#8220;He&#8217;s a good player and can help our team. It&#8217;s been a frustrating start for him and I sympathize with him.&#8221;</p><style>
