Officers arrest suspect for robbing Turkey Hill

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A former girlfriend of convicted murderer Hugo Selenski was arrested at a traffic stop early Tuesday morning on warrants and a drug-related charge.</p><p>Officers encountered Carey Bartoo, whom they described as 45 years old and homeless, during a traffic stop around 1 a.m. and found that she was wanted on two bench warrants as well as a detainer out of Luzerne County.</p><p>Police say Bartoo was in possession of drug paraphernalia and was charged accordingly. She was taken to the Luzerne County Correctional Facility for overnight arraignment accordingly.</p><p>Bartoo was sentenced in August by a Luzerne County judge to the county&#8217;s Intermediate Punishment Program, which involves mandatory drug treatment counseling.</p><p>Bartoo, with a last known address on Luzerne Street in Hanover Township, testified during Selenski&#8217;s double homicide trial earlier this year. She testified she could not remember if she picked up Selenski, 43, at the Hunlock Township residence of Michael Kerkowski on May 3, 2002, because she was using heroin at the time.</p><p>Bartoo has battled drug addiction for years, court records say.</p><p>Selenski was convicted by a county jury in February in the strangulation deaths of Kerkowski and Tammy Fassett and of abusing their bodies. He was sentenced to consecutive terms of life in prison.</p><p>Selenski said during a preliminary hearing before a Dauphin County district judge in April 2014 that he managed to pay Bartoo &#8217;s rent for an apartment in Plains Township while he was jailed.</p><p>The preliminary hearing in Dauphin County involved witness intimidation allegations connected to the homicide case in Luzerne County.</p><p>When Bartoo testified at the preliminary hearing, she was wanted by Kingston Township police on allegations she was driving a 2006 Honda Civic reported stolen to state police at Tunkhannock on April 4, 2014.</p><p>State police at Wyoming charged Bartoo and her then boyfriend, Timothy Fenster, 30, of Plains Township, in their alleged role in burglarizing a house on Park Avenue, Jackson Township, on April 8, 2014. A large amount of jewelry was stolen from the Jackson Township residence and sold at a pawn shop for cash, according to the criminal complaints.</p><p>Bartoo and another woman were charged by Wilkes-Barre police with possessing syringes, heroin packets and bottles of urine inside a parked vehicle on Wilkes Lane on March 29, court records say.</p><p>Bartoo pleaded guilty to criminal conspiracy to receive stolen property, criminal conspiracy to commit theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia on May 27.</p><p>Judge Joseph Sklarosky Jr. sentenced Bartoo to 30 months in the Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 16 months committed at an inpatient treatment facility followed by one-year probation.</p><style>
