Crestwood boys soccer concludes historic season

ASHLEY &#8212; Ashley officially became the sixth member of the newly formed South Valley Council of Governments, following approval Tuesday by the borough council.Resolution 82, which borough Manager Greg Gulick said is a &#8216;go,&#8217; is pending review by solicitor William E. Vinsko Jr. Brought forth by council Vice Chair Frank Sorokach, the move to join was seconded by Councilman Gerald Maldanado and passed unanimously.The six members &#8212; Nanticoke, Hanover Township, Newport Township, Plymouth Township, Sugar Notch and Ashley &#8212; will pay $400 annually to join the COG.The purpose of the municipalities joining the COG is so they can band together to buy what is needed at cheaper prices.&#8220;For instance, say we need five police cars, we can all go in together to put one bid out there and we should be able to get them cheaper,&#8221; Gulick said. &#8220;We don&#8217;t have to go in on everything they&#8217;re doing.&#8221;Gulick stressed he didn&#8217;t like the $400 fee because what Nanticoke pays Ashley shouldn&#8217;t pay, but it was voted on between the municipalities, passed and all pay equally.In other business, council:&#8226; Approved the bills for October 2015 in the amount of $38,010.24.&#8226; Approved the payroll for October 2015 at a price of $44,958.57.* Re-approved the Sept. 15, 2015, work session resolutions.&#8226; Approved Hanover Area Little League to expand and take over the upper field at Bobby Strish Memorial Park after the former organization using it, Ashley-Hanover Girls Softball, ceased to exist.&#8220;For the past year and a half, the field in the back where the lights are has gone unused,&#8221; Wes Saltz, representing Hanover Area Little League, said during his petition to the board. &#8220;It&#8217;ll give us another field to practice on and an opportunity for our kids to play at night under the lights.&#8221;&#8226; Tabled a resolution to authorize the borough to accept property from the Luzerne County Redevelopment Authority/Ashley has a new website, www.AshleyPA.net. The website hosts Ashley community news, meeting minutes, Right-To-Know request forms and borough applications.
