Letter to the Editor: Jenkins Township vote-getter Joseph Sperrazza thanks his supporters

On Oct. 16, a friend and I had the privilege to take the five-hour drive to the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C., to attend a concert &#8220;starring&#8221; Roger Waters and other notable big-name artists benefiting the MusiCorps association. The group helps injured veterans with therapy through music.We went there intending to see a few of our favorite artists perform, with the understanding that the proceeds from the show would benefit these brave young men and women who have been injured in the recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.After the first song it was clear to us (and everyone in attendance) that the &#8220;stars&#8221; we came to see we&#8217;re not the true stars on the stage that night. The house band was made up of injured veterans, who, through this fantastic organization, helped these men and women overcome their devastating injuries and taught them that through music they can still lead very productive lives.In between songs, the members of the band told their heartbreaking stories of their injuries (both physical and mental) and how music therapy helped them cope with those injuries. Not knowing beforehand that was going to be the premise of the show, we were completely blown away by the talent and bravery of these true &#8220;stars.&#8221;From now on, whatever &#8220;headline&#8221; name is on the bill for these concerts, we will be making this yearly trek to attend this show for its true stars &#8211; not be the names that appear on the ticket, but the brave men and women who perform with them.To help, please contact MusiCorps.Dave GeskeySwoyersville
