KINGSTON TWP. &#8212; There will be no tax increase for township residents, according to the $3.3 million 2016 municipal budget.The proposed 2016 budget was unanimously adopted by supervisors Wednesday night.The budget will keep the .001 mill rate. A mill is $1 in tax for every $1,000 in assessed value. The Real Estate Transfer Tax will stay at 2 percent. The Earned Income Tax will hold at 1.57 percent.Supervisors raised the mill rate from .00075 to .001 mills in the 2015 budget to fund over three miles of paving projects, James Reino, chairman of the township supervisors, said.This change created a $307,170 surplus in the proposed 2016 budget. The money is allotted for paving of an additional three and a half miles of roads in 2016.&#8220;We are in really good shape,&#8221; Reino said.The approved 2016 budget is available in the municipal building for public viewing.In other news:&#8226; The Kingston Township Public Works Department is holding a yard waste and bagged leaf pick up until Nov. 13. Yard waste and leaves must be bagged and placed curbside for pick-up.&#8226; Kingston Township Police Officer John Fuches was appointed as the new D.A.R.E officer.&#8226; Supervisors are accepting letters of interest from residents to serve a five-year term on the Dallas Area Municipal Authority Board of Directors. Residents may drop off their letters at the Kingston Township Municipal Office, 180 E. Center St., Shavertown.&#8226; Supervisors enacted the Winter Parking Ordinance effective until March 31. The ordinance prohibits parking on township streets between the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. daily as well as during snow storms, up to eight hours after the end of a storm.The next supervisor work session is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 7 at the municipal building.
