<p>It sounds like the beginning of a bad sci-fi movie: Congress has legalized space mining.</p><p>Well, you&#8217;re living in a bad sci-fi movie, because Congress has legalized space mining.</p><p>According to a press release from Planetary Resources, Inc., the asteroid mining company, H.R. 2262 was passed Nov. 10. The resolution allows United States citizens to own asteroid resources as property, opening up the final frontier for an intergalactic Gold Rush.</p><p>&#8220;Long ago, The Homestead Act of 1862 advocated for the search for gold and timber, and today, H.R. 2262 fuels a new economy that will open many avenues for the continual growth and prosperity of humanity,&#8221; President and Chief Engineer of Planetary Resources, Inc. Chris Lewicki said in a prepared statement. &#8220;This off-planet economy will forever change our lives for the better here on Earth.&#8221;</p><p>Are you apprehensive about businesses expanding their reach to the stars or are you ready for humanity to don their space suits, grab their space pickaxes and mine some space gold?
