<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8211; We&#8217;ve reached the halfway point of our No Shave November experiment and, while beards are growing full and steady, morale of the men is slightly sinking.</p><p>But, they&#8217;re carrying through, sharing tales of horrified family members with a chuckle.</p><p>Take Tom Harper for example. He&#8217;s the single-copy manager for the Times Leader and last weekend, he took his 16-year-old daughter, Nicole, to an open house at The University of Scranton. Nicole is a junior at Wyoming Valley West and when the two were ready to head to Scranton, Nicole said: &#8220;Dad, you can&#8217;t go like that!&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;I looked at my clothes and said &#8216;what&#8217;s wrong with this?&#8217;&#8221; Tom recalled.</p><p>&#8220;Dad, you have to shave.&#8221;</p><p>Tom explained to Nicole he had made a commitment to No Shave November and about the importance of sticking to commitments.</p><p>As many 16-year-olds would say, Nicole responded, &#8220;Well, then you&#8217;ll have to stay in the car.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;I didn&#8217;t stay in the car, but I did spend a lot of time explaining myself when I would get some looks,&#8221; Tom said.</p><p>Bill O&#8217;Boyle works in the newsroom and has let all those he works with know he isn&#8217;t fond of his beard. Others, he said, are.</p><p>&#8220;I went to church yesterday and some of the people there said they like it. I said I don&#8217;t. They said that I should keep it after this is over. I said I don&#8217;t think I can,&#8221; Bill recalled. &#8220;I just don&#8217;t like the way it feels. It&#8217;s itchy. It&#8217;s itchy all the time.&#8221;</p><p>Tony Spina, advertising director for the Times Leader, is another one who&#8217;s been getting a mildly cold shoulder at home. He&#8217;s got some big family events coming up that may make that shoulder grow a little colder.</p><p>&#8220;I went to go give my wife a goodnight kiss the other night and she said, &#8216;Oh no, you don&#8217;t. Not with that beard on your face,&#8217;&#8221; he said. &#8220;She was just kidding. I hope.&#8221;</p><p>It&#8217;s almost over, though. Two more weeks to go and then they can rid themselves of their facial fur &#8212; unless, of course, they decide they like it enough to keep it.</p><style>
