Sweet potatoes are a versatile ingredient for many holiday dishes. Times Leader reader Mary Louise Harris emailed us one of her family’s favorites, a Praline Sweet Potato Bake, and it received some rave reviews from folks in the newsroom.

It’s a slightly more complicated recipe than this cook is used to, but challenge accepted and totally worth it.

To make the Praline Sweet Potato Bake you’ll need sweet potatoes, milk, brown sugar, melted butter or margarine, an egg, vanilla extract, salt, chopped pecans and flour.

Preheat oven to 350.

Mix together the cold sweet potatoes, milk, butter, brown sugar, vanilla, egg and salt. While an electric mixer works best, it can be done by hand but there will be a few lumps left in the potatoes.

Once combined transfer the mixture into a greased 1 1/2 quart baking dish and set aside.

For the topping, combine butter, brown sugar and flour until a syrupy consistency is created. Add the pecans and stir until coated. Place the pecan mixture on top of the potato mixture.

Bake uncovered for 30 to 35 minutes until golden brown.

Let cool. Serve. Enjoy.
