<p>SUGAR NOTCH &#8212; Christmas is still a month away, but for Sugar Notch, the season began Sunday with the 10th annual Christmas parade.</p><p>The parade, which brought out over 200 children and their parents, began at Keyco Warehouse Outlet in the Hanover Industrial Park and ended at Holy Family Church on Main Street, Santa Claus, direct from the North Pole, waved to the crowd as a karaoke machine on the float upon on which he sat played &#8220;Santa Claus is Coming to Town.&#8221;</p><p>Untraditionally, Santa brought along his elves on all-terrain vehicles instead of Rudolph and his pals.</p><p>The event continues to grow, according to co-organizer Randy Gyle. Gyle, who owns RJ Towing, and Sugar Notch Mayor William Davis, buy the plush toys &#8212; this year a reindeer &#8212; for the children.</p><p>&#8220;We start planning this about two months in advance,&#8221; Gyle said.</p><p>The parade hosted 50 different units &#8212; fire trucks, tow and dump trucks, classic cars, motorcycles &#8212; as Santa was welcomed to the borough.</p><p>&#8220;I get to sit in the back and count them,&#8221; Santa said of the units appearing ahead of him.</p><p>Sugar Notch, Hanover Township, Ashley and Wilkes-Barre Township fire departments and Ashley and Hanover Township EMS helped lead the man in the red suit down Main Street. Mascots Tux, of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and Champ, of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Railriders, also helped get the crowd into the holiday season.</p><p>Children, some scared by the sirens and lights of the fire trucks, were overcome with excitement when Santa came by.</p><p>&#8220;Is this exciting?&#8221; Amanda Kalish asked her 2-year-old daughter, Cassidy.</p><p>&#8220;Yeah!&#8221; Cassidy responded enthusiastically.</p><p>Carter Watkins agreed Santa was great but the candy thrown by the firefighters and vehicle drivers came a close second. He also enjoyed crawling around inside the Ashley fire truck.</p><p>&#8220;I got to wear a helmet,&#8221; he boasted.</p><p>Arriving at the church, Santa Claus, played by Davis, was greeted by over 200 children and parents. The elves stood faithfully by Santa&#8217;s side as he passed out the reindeer to the children, took pictures &#8212; including selfies &#8212; and listened to Christmas wishes.</p><p>After the parade, hot dogs, soda and hot chocolate were served in the church basement by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Askam.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a lot of fun, lots of kids,&#8221; Santa said. &#8220;Best little town in the world.&#8221;</p><style>
