Letter to the Editor: Pennsylvania’s tardy budget takes toll on ‘less fortunate’

So, the latest and greatest idea from the Wilkes-Barre Area School Board is to open the Coughlin trailer park. Really? Isn&#8217;t it bad enough our kids have to go to school in the most deplorable conditions already and now they will have to go in trailers?Has anyone thought about what kind of high school experience this will be for the kids? What happens in the winter; will they have to keep their coats with them and all of their books and walk outside to the next &#8220;classroom?&#8221; I&#8217;m sure there won&#8217;t be room for lockers.What about physical education? Isn&#8217;t that normally a requirement to graduate from any high school? What about any kind of assemblies? Where will the school nurse be? They will have to hire another one (more money), because one will already be at Mackin Elementary School.What about a cafeteria? What about any extracurricular activities: student council, any clubs, sports, etc.?There is no way the kids will get to have any of these things, and they should! And what will happen to the $8 million Mackin when the new school is built? Storage? Probably.The question everyone should be asking is where has all of our taxpayer money gone over the years? The district claims to have been concerned about the structural problems over the past &#8220;few&#8221; years.Coughlin and Meyers should have been taken care of over the years and then we would not have any of these issues. It&#8217;s called maintenance, people.This school district is an embarrassment to the whole county.Thank you, school board members past and present, for letting our schools deteriorate.Jeannie JonesWilkes-Barre
