Mr. and Mrs. John Stelmack celebrate 60th anniversary

<p>ASHLEY &#8212; A borough family was displaced after a fire caused heavy damage to their home Sunday morning.</p><p>Fire crews responded to the residential structure fire at 6 Ross St. after neighbors who could smell something burning placed calls to Luzerne County 911 around 10 a.m.</p><p>Smoke, billowing from the windows and roof, could be seen from Park Avenue in Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>&#8220;The first floor has water damage and the second floor is a total loss,&#8221; Ashley Fire Chief Joe McGlynn said.</p><p>McGlynn added that the family who lives in the home was in church at the time of the blaze.</p><p>Hanover Township, Nanticoke and Sugar Notch fire departments assisted Ashley fire, police and medic units.</p><p>The American Red Cross was called to assist the family with lodging and basic necessities.</p><style>

Update: Ashley family displaced after fire guts 2nd floor of their home while they were at church
