Chipotle shares fall amid E. coli, sales issues

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; It didn&#8217;t matter if the sky was gray and the trees were bare outside.</p><p>Thanks to the work of 13 regional artists, anyone who visited the gallery at Marquis Art &amp; Frame in downtown Wilkes-Barre during a recent reception was able to drink in the sight of irises, hyacinths, pansies and other colorful blossoms.</p><p>&#8220;Seeing this, you&#8217;d think it&#8217;s spring,&#8221; art fan Rita Skechus of Duryea said as she admired the &#8220;In Bloom:Views from the Gardens&#8221; exhibit, which will be on display through Jan. 16.</p><p>The watercolors, oils, acrylic paintings and ceramic tiles harken back to June 27, when the Back Mountain Bloomers garden club hosted a tour of several area gardens.</p><p>It rained that day, participating artists Mary Lou Steinberg, of Kingston, and Linda Keck, of Swoyersville, remembered, so many of the artists opted to shoot photographs of the gardens and paint later rather than painting on site during the inclement weather.</p><p>The resulting exhibit is a treat, gallery visitors Mary Gene and Michael Sweeney of Hanover Township said as they admired the peaceful backyard pond, complete with flowing water and mermaid statue, that Waltraut Piontkowski of Nanticoke had painted.</p><p>&#8220;I just like waterfalls,&#8221; Michael Sweeney said.</p><p>Artist Diane Czajkowski, of Nanticoke, said she loves irises and was grateful to find in one of the gardens some fine specimens that inspired her paintings. A lawn ornament shaped like a bird also made its way into her work. &#8220;He looks like he&#8217;s real,&#8221; she remarked. &#8220;Doesn&#8217;t he?&#8221;</p><p>Czajkowski said she admired the purple tulips, blue poppies and pansies fellow artist Dolores Ann Grozio, also of Nanticoke, had painted because she knew Grozio had picked up the brushes again after an absence.</p><p>&#8220;She started with one of the hardest things (watercolors) and she was totally successful at it,&#8221; Czajkowski said.</p><p>Art fan Don Armstrong, of Mountain Top, said the gardens on the Back Mountain Bloomers tour, which is held every other year, and the artwork they inspired are all beautiful.</p><p>&#8220;The shrubbery, the sculptures, the pond work,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s always fantastic, sometimes beyond words.&#8221;</p><style>
