H.S. boys basketball: Coughlin slips past Wyoming Area, 32-29

Old Forge’s postseason run ends in state semifinals

Marley O&#8217;Brien scored 14 points and Taryn Ashby finished with 13 as Pittston Area built a big halftime lead and closed out a 49-34 victory over GAR in a high school girls basketball game Friday in Yatesville.Marie Skrepenak paced GAR with 10 points and Lindsey Quinn added nine in the losing effort.Ashby had eight points in the first half and O&#8217;Brien scored six in the second quarter as the Patriots surged to a 28-19 lead by halftime.O&#8217;Brien added eight points in the second half to keep Pittston Area comfortable.Nanticoke Area 50, Wyoming Valley West 44Kayla Aufiero poured in 13 of her game-high 23 points from the foul line and the Trojans used six points from Gianna Roberts in the fourth quarter to come back for a late victory.Aufiero hit five of her foul shots down the stretch as the Trojans rallied from a 36-33 deficit entering the final quarter.Roberts finished with 10 points for the Trojans.Erin Gibbons led Valley West with 16 points, while Gabby Smicherko had 11 for the Spartans.Berwick 45, Lake-Lehman 35Tori Talanca finished with 18 points and the Bulldogs built a 13-point halftime lead to run away from Lehman.Mackenzie Love led the Black Knights with 11 points.Wyoming Area 76, Coughlin 39Sarah Holweg scored 22 points while Katie Wolfgang tallied 19 points as Wyoming Area defeated Coughlin.
