Luzerne man who battled police, bit Bar Louie patron during brawl pleads guilty to assault charges

WILKES-BARRE &#8212; A man who slashed a 4-inch long gash into his wife&#8217;s head during a scuffle earlier this year was sentenced Monday in Luzerne County Court.Jeremiah Deiter, 33, was sentenced to 21 to 84 months behind bars by Luzerne County Judge Joseph F. Sklarosky Jr. Deiter, of 54 Marlborough Ave., Wilkes-Barre, was also ordered to serve two years probation and attend anger management classes and batterers intervention.According to a criminal complaint, Deiter on March 21 accused his wife, Vanessa Deiter, of stealing cash out of his father&#8217;s pockets while he slept. Deiter&#8217;s father, John Deiter, told police he witnessed Jeremiah Deiter allegedly tell the victim &#8220;I&#8217;m going to smash you if you keep lying.&#8221;The complaint says as Jeremiah Deiter attempted to hit his wife, she bit his left thumb in self defense. John Dieter then told police he witnessed Jeremiah Deiter go to the kitchen and return with a black-handled folding knife. Jeremiah Deiter grabbed the victim and cut her across the forehead.The cut left a gash 4 inches long and about a half inch wide, according to the complaint.Wilkes-Barre Police were dispatched to Wilkes-Barre General Hospital where they observed Vanessa Deiter with blood on her clothes and her face, neck and hands.Officers later tracked down both John and Jeremiah Deiter to a residence on Hollenback Street.
