Moorhead ready to overhaul Penn State’s offense

ALLENTOWN, PA &#8212; New coach, new faces, same result.A shutout.Making his first start as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins top netminder, Tristan Jarry wasn&#8217;t too busy on Wednesday against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, but he did stop all 17 shots he faced as the Penguins blanked the Lehigh Valley Phantoms 3-0. The win is the fourth straight for the Penguins and their third consecutive shutout - a span of 180:29.Under interim head coach Jay Leach, the Penguins are now 2-0 and on Wednesday they did it without Matt Murray, Conor Sheary and Kevin Porter who were all recalled to Pittsburgh.&#8220;It&#8217;s a testament to the guys we have in this room,&#8221; Leach said. &#8220;They want to win. We&#8217;re just trying to preach the way we wanted to play since say one and for the most part the guys are buying in.&#8221;The shutout was Jarry&#8217;s second of the season, and both have now come in his last two starts and he now has a shutout streak of 144:02.While the Penguins defense stymied the Phantoms, Jarry is no stranger to facing few shots. Twice this season he faced 16 shots in a game and both resulted in wins.Jarry said the key to making saves in a game when the shots are few is more of a mental battle.&#8220;Keep your mind in the game. I&#8217;m constantly watching the game, watching plays develop,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You don&#8217;t get very many shots early on and then you get a flurry now and then.&#8221;A goal from Clark Seymour - a shot from the point through traffic in front, gave the Penguins a 1-0 midway through the first period.At the other end, Jarry saw little action as the Penguins limited the Phantoms to just five shots through the first 35 minutes.&#8220;He gets two chances in a matter of five minutes when he hasn&#8217;t seen anything in 10. It&#8217;s a touch challenge,&#8221; Leach said of his netminder. &#8220;But a game like this he does pretty well. He just sits back there and nothing really rattles him.&#8221;The Penguins weren&#8217;t generating much offense either, but did manage to build a 2-0 lead when Jean-Sebastien Dea intercepted a clearing pass from Phantoms netminder Jason LaBarbera, skated through the low slow and sent a backhand shot into the top of the net.The goal allowed Leach to breathe a little easier.&#8220;The thing about these games, they start to press. Naturally you start to kind of retreat because you want to defend,&#8221; he said. &#8220;As the goals came, it felt a little bit better.&#8221;Bryan Rust gave the Penguins a comfortable 3-0 lead when he scored from down low with 6:32 remaining in the game.&#8220;The team has done a great job in the last 10 minutes, and that&#8217;s one of the biggest things,&#8221; Jarry said. &#8220;We&#8217;ve been locking it down in the third period and that&#8217;s what it takes to win.&#8221;NOTES- D Harrison Ruopp, C Matia Marcantuoni (injury), RW Tyler Biggs (injury), LW Sahir Gill, LW Tom Sestito (injury), D Steve Oleksy (injury) and D Barry Goers (injury) were scratched for the Penguins.- Pittsburgh&#8217;s assistant general manager Jason Botterill said after the game that Sestito will be signed to a new PTO.- Leach faced a familiar face in Phantoms coach Scott Gordon. Leach played under Gordon when he coached Providence in 2007. &#8220;I have a ton of respect for him. He gave me a chance as a pro hockey player. He taught me a lot of things and he works his tail off,&#8221; Leach said. &#8220;When the puck drops you don&#8217;t think anything of it.
