Wilkes holds final lecture series on effectiveness of standardized testing

<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>HANNAH ACKERS</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Crestwood</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Midfielder</p><p style="text-align: left;">One of the most prolific scorers in the Wyoming Valley Conference, Ackers hit for 11 goals and added six assists as Crestwood spent most of the season as the top-ranked Class 2A team in Pennsylvania. The Michigan State recruit started the season with a hat trick and didn&#8217;t slow down at the end, registering four goals and five assists in six playoff games.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>TAYLOR ALBA</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Lake-Lehman</p><p style="text-align: center;">Junior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Midfielder</p><p style="text-align: left;">The Temple commit finished with eight goals and eight assists during the regular season while adding some pretty strong defense to a Black Knights team that went 14-1 while winning the WVC Division 3. Her tenacious play in the postseason helped Lehman finish runnerup in the District 2 Class 2A playoffs and reach the first round of state play.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>BREE BEDNARSKI</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Wyoming Area</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Forward</p><p style="text-align: left;">Her 67 goals this season ranked second nationally this season and finished as the seventh-best single-season total in high school history as Bednarski led the Warriors to their first District 2 playoff victory. The Michigan recruit finished with 127 goals for her career, scored in every game and had at least three goals in a game 11 times, including two six-goal games.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>LIZZY DESSOYE</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Crestwood</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Midfielder</p><p style="text-align: left;">Her thrilling breakaway goal in overtime lifted the Comets into the state semifinals and capped a season of success. The Maryland recruit finished with eight goals and six assists during Crestwood&#8217;s 10-0 regular season, then added four goals and three assists in six playoff games.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>JORDAN OLENGINSKI</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Crestwood</p><p style="text-align: center;">Junior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Forward</p><p style="text-align: left;">With two hat-trick games, Olenginski developed a knack for putting the ball in the cage. Her 13 goals led a Crestwood team loaded with scorers, and she was even more dynamic in the postseason. She finished with five goals in the playoffs, including the deciding score in a first-round state victory over Manheim Central.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>NICOLE PARANICH</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Crestwood</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Back</p><p style="text-align: left;">After spending a season away from the field with a torn ACL, Paranich returned with a vengeance to spark a Comets defense that shut out six of its first seven league opponents and didn&#8217;t allow more than one goal in any game until the state playoffs. Paranich shined even in Crestwood&#8217;s state semifinal loss, making two defensive saves while shadowing and limiting Twin Valley&#8217;s supremely skilled players.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>KALIE REED</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Coughlin</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Back</p><p style="text-align: left;">The backbone of a Crusaders defense that posted eight shutouts and allowed just one goal in the team&#8217;s six other games through the District 2 playoffs. Reed excelled at cutting off passing lanes and steering trouble away from the net while drastically reducing the number of scoring opportunities for opponents.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>SAVANNA ROBINSON</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Coughlin</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Midfielder</p><p style="text-align: left;">By flying all over the field and pestering some of the most dangerous scorers in the conference, Robinson proved to be a tremendous deterrent to teams trying to advance the ball into Coughlin territory. A defensive mid by nature, she put her superior speed and expert stickwork to good use on the offensive end also, putting up two goals and five assists in the regular season and adding four assists in Coughlin&#8217;s four playoff games.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>KARA SANFORD</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Hazleton Area</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Forward</p><p style="text-align: left;">Before heading off to play for Providence, Sanford left her stamp on Hazleton Area&#8217;s field hockey history. She finished as the Cougars&#8217; all-time leader with 202 career points, 86 career goals, 30 careers assists and with 86 points in her senior season. She hit five goals in a game four times and her assist on the lone goal of a District 2 Class 3A semifinal game sent the Cougars to their first-ever district title game, which she played despite suffering a shattered hand five minutes in.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>ALEXIS SOKACH</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Wyoming Seminary</p><p style="text-align: center;">Junior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Goalie</p><p style="text-align: left;">Her uncanny ability to turn away shots lifted the Blue Knights to the WVC Division 4 title and led Sem to the District 2 Class 2A semifinals. During the regular season, Sokach stopped 50 of the 59 shots against her to lead the conference with a .847 save percentage. She recorded three shutouts on the year and had three games with 10 or more saves. Sokach also stopped eight of the nine shots against Sem in the district playoffs.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>LILLI STEPANSKI</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Lake-Lehman</p><p style="text-align: center;">Junior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Forward</p><p style="text-align: left;">One of the top point producers in the WVC, Stepanski registered 15 assists to finish second in the league and had six games with multiple assists for a Black Knights team that finished 16-3 overall. She also scored eight goals to rank among the league&#8217;s top 10 scoring leaders, and added an assist in the district playoffs.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>KATE SUPEY</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Lake-Lehman</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Forward</p><p style="text-align: left;">A scoring machine who fueled more than a few of Lehman&#8217;s 15 victories, Supey scored at least three goals in seven games this season and finished second in the WVC with 33 goals and 78 points. The Syracuse-bound playmaker also dished out 12 assists to tie for third in the WVC, then added four goals in the Black Knights&#8217; five postseason games.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>EMILIE WANKO</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Wyomimg Area</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Midfielder</p><p style="text-align: left;">Wanko&#8217;s 28 assists not only led the Wyoming Valley Conference, they tied for ninth place nationally this season. She had a whopping five games where she distributed three assists while helping to drive the Warriors to their best finish in school history, a 14-3 record that included a trip to the District 2 Class 2A semifinals. She also scored eight goals and finished fifth in the WVC with 39 points.</p><p style="text-align: center;"><strong>KYRA WOZNIAK</strong></p><p style="text-align: center;">Coughlin</p><p style="text-align: center;">Senior</p><p style="text-align: center;">Forward</p><p>When the Crusaders went looking to score, more often than not, they looked right to Wozniak. Combining a scalding shot with a deft touch, Wozniak wound up among the WVC&#8217;s top six scorers with 16 goals and point producers with 37 points.
