Luzerne County can’t select an outside candidate to be temporary manager, attorney says

Attending the courthouse tree-lighting ceremony and sharing the joy of the Christmas and holiday season with our community was a very encouraging and priceless experience.This year the ceremony featured an introduction and seasons greetings from Luzerne County Council Chairwoman Linda McClosky Houck, a musical performance by the King&#8217;s College choir, the lighting of the tree by Emma and Lily Watchilla, and a special musical performance by Maura Chappel and Madison Kaminski.I would like the Luzerne County Council to maintain the spirit of good will that the holidays established.American politics at every level, from Washington to Wilkes-Barre, has disintegrated into a constant and never-ending mudslinging contest. No one can get along and very little gets done.The Luzerne County Council has a unique opportunity to reverse this trend by demonstrating how a professional government and legislature operate. Of course, council members should fight for their policies and achieve their objectives. They could also establish a new precedent in politics by operating in a professional manner without the insults and mudslinging that goes along with our political debates.I also want to talk to our Luzerne County government employees. I served in government for over 17 years, so I am familiar with the constant scrutiny and criticisms that are thrown at government workers. I want to tell the other side of the story. Our county government workers make the government work, hold the community together and make peaceful life possible. I appreciate their contribution to our community.Peter GagliardiWilkes-Barre
