<p>WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8212; An alligator plays the trumpet, a muscular horse tries to retrieve a stolen tiara, and two frogs argue because, well, they&#8217;re so different. One of them is really a hard-working waitress and the other is really a lazy prince.</p><p>Those are just a few of the fun moments in the Disney on Ice production &#8220;Dare to Dream,&#8221; which is coming to the Mohegan Sun Arena for nine performances from Jan. 13 to Jan. 18.</p><p>The show retells stories you may have seen in the fairly recent movies &#8220;The Princess and the Frog&#8221; and &#8220;Tangled,&#8221; as well as the Disney classics &#8220;Cinderella&#8221; and &#8220;Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.&#8221;</p><p>It opens, to the tune of &#8220;When the Saints Go Marching In,&#8221; in a setting reminiscent of 1920s New Orleans, with flappers, banjo players and Charleston dancers all helping you get ready to watch plucky young Tiana dream of opening her own restaurant, fall in love and kiss a frog, not necessarily in that order.</p><p>By show&#8217;s end, skater Stephanie Steele said, audiences will see just about every Disney heroine you can think of, as Jasmine, Mulan, Ariel, Belle and Aurora join Snow White, Cinderella and Tiana in welcoming a long-lost, long-haired beauty.</p><p>&#8220;Mickey and Minnie introduce each of those princesses and Rapunzel comes out and receives her crown. They&#8217;re welcoming her back to the kingdom,&#8221; said Steele, an Ontario native who is understudy for and has performed several of the leading roles.</p><p>&#8220;With Rapunzel, her movements are very young and fun,&#8221; Steele said. &#8220;Cinderella is more delicate and slower paced.&#8221;</p><p>The innocent Snow White has &#8220;all the drama of being scared when she&#8217;s chased by the bats and the trees and the huntsman. Then when she interacts with the seven dwarfs, they&#8217;re so high-energy.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s so fun to do all of them,&#8221; Steele said, who spoke in a telephone interview from Toledo, Ohio. &#8220;The newer stories bookend the show at the beginning and end, which gives the show a nice flow and makes the older stories feel more modern, too.&#8221;</p><p>Lest anyone think all these starring roles for princesses result in a show that appeals only to girls, Steele predicted boys will find much to like, from Maximus, the horse that skates his way through &#8220;Tangled&#8221; to the evil brothers who tussle with Rapunzel&#8217;s Flynn and a sidekick duke who adds humor to &#8220;Cinderella.&#8221;</p><p>Another exciting aspect of the show is an aerial act during which Flynn escapes Rapunzel&#8217;s tower, 25 feet in the air, aided by the 2,000 feet of golden silk that represent her magical hair.</p><p>Fans of the movie &#8220;Tangled&#8221; know Rapunzel&#8217;s parents have been sending lanterns into the sky on her birthday, every year since she was kidnapped.</p><p>During each performance, producer Kenneth Feld said in a news release, &#8220;one special child is picked to launch the first lantern. All you see is the one lantern that goes up and as soon as it reaches the top, all the other lanterns light up the arena. It&#8217;s breath-taking.&#8221;</p><style>
