<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The first quarter came and went, and Holy Redeemer still didn&#8217;t have a single point.</p><p>The Royals more than made up for it after that.</p><p>Rebecca Prociak scored 20 points and Meghan Corridoni hit for 15 in an unfamiliar reserve role Saturday as Holy Redeemer recovered from its scoreless first quarter to run past Marian Catholic, 47-35, in a non-conference girls basketball game at Holy Redeemer High School.</p><p>&#8220;That&#8217;s the first time that&#8217;s ever happened to us since I&#8217;ve been a coach here, getting shut out for a whole quarter,&#8221; said Chris Parker, who is in his fifth season as Redeemer&#8217;s head coach. &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to have better starts than we had tonight (Saturday).&#8221;</p><p>All five Fillies starters scored baskets in the opening quarter to put Redeemer in a 10-0 hole. The Royals weren&#8217;t all that worried, though.</p><p>&#8220;Sometimes, we have slow starts,&#8221; Prociak said. &#8220;We came out and we weren&#8217;t communicating on defense. Offense was stalled.</p><p>&#8220;Sometimes, we just can&#8217;t get out.&#8221;</p><p>So Prociak took it upon herself to get the Royals rolling.</p><p>After Corridoni came off the bench to score Redeemer&#8217;s first basket nearly nine minutes into the game, Prociak poured in 11 points in the Royals&#8217; 23-point second quarter. Prociak drove to the basket for a layup that gave the Royals their first lead, 14-12 - and ultimately put them ahead to stay 2:53 before halftime.</p><p>The 5-foot-11 center followed that with a three-point play, and added another basket and two foul shots in the final two minutes to help Redeemer take a 23-16 lead at intermission.</p><p>&#8220;They had a good big girl,&#8221; Prociak said of Marian Catholic&#8217;s Savanna Krushinsky, &#8220;who was clogging up the middle. When she got her second foul, I saw an opening.&#8221;</p><p>Then Corridoni saw to it Redeemer got a spark in the second half.</p><p>Pulled from the regular starting lineup this week, the 6-foot Corridoni scored eight of Redeemer&#8217;s 10 points in the third quarter on four baskets - with each one giving the Royals an 11-point lead. She then added five more points in the fourth quarter to help keep Redeemer&#8217;s lead between nine and 12 points.</p><p>&#8220;She was a kid I brought off the bench because she really didn&#8217;t play well against Meyers,&#8221; Parker said. &#8220;Just trying to change some things with the lineup. I&#8217;m trying to see just where kids stand. I thought she was the kid who best responded. I was very proud of her effort.&#8221;</p><p>By leaning on their tall timbers inside, the Royals improved to 6-2 overall while re-discovering some tenaciousness on defense - at least through the final 24 minutes - that helped them reach the PIAA semifinals each of the last two seasons.</p><p>&#8220;Coach stresses we can&#8217;t come out slow,&#8221; Prociak said. &#8220;He said if we came out fast in the first quarter, we probably would have been up by 25.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Lincoln Leadership Academy 59, MMI Prep 30</strong></p><p>Maddie Perchak hit a pair of 3-point field goals and led the Preppers with 10 points in the defeat.</p><p>Kryslyn Postupack and Bailey Slusser both scored eight points for MMI, which struggled to score in a 10-point first half and trailed by 25 points at halftime.</p><p>Zeleny Rasmas led Lincoln Leadership with 27 points while personally out-scoring Prep 11-4 in the opening quarter.
