The following are recent Luzerne County restaurant inspection reports from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. According the agency: &#8220;any inspection is a &#8216;snapshot&#8217; of the day and time of the inspection. Temperature measuring device for ensuring proper temperature of equipment is not available in the salad cooler. Observed an accumulation of food residue on both vegetable cutters. Employee placed cutters in sink to soak at time of inspection. Observed a buildup of dust on the fan guard in refrigeration unit at the drive-thru. Fan cleaned at time of inspection. Observed a buildup of whipped cream residue on the ceiling of refrigeration unit by shake area. Area cleaned at time of inspection. Observed an accumulation of black residues on non-food contact surfaces around dispensing area on ice machine. Company called to service machine. Observed a buildup of black residue in the corners of the table with cups at the drive-thru area. Observed a buildup of soap residues on hand-wash sink. The door to the right of the sliding-door Pepsi refrigeration unit in the prep area that opens to the outside has an gap approximately 1 inch with visible light at the lower left corner, and does not protect against the entry of insects, rodents, and other animals. The bases of the toilets have a black residue on the base where mounted to the floor. Violations: Observed cases of food stored directly on the floor in the walk-in freezer, rather than 6 inches off the floor as required. Cases moved during inspection. Complaint inspection; in compliance. Violations: The floor/wall juncture in the seating area has large gaps where the floor appears to have settled. Kitchen area and the restrooms of the food facility are extremely dirty, dusty and in need of cleaning. Walls in the restroom have a hole and are in need of repair. Observed seven old rodent droppings along walls in restroom and in the storage room. Observed a cardboard box in the storage area that appears to have been chewed by a rodent for nesting. Observed an accumulation of old food residue on non-food contact surface of cappuccino and milk dispensers in the self-serve area. Violations: Person in charge at time of inspection does not exhibit a working knowledge of PA Food Code requirements and general food safety requirements. Person in charge at time of inspection did not exhibit knowledge of reportable illness transmittable through food. Employee observed eating food and using food prep table in rear kitchen area as table. Food containers stored on floor in walk-in cooler and walk-in freezer. Top exterior surfaces of dishwasher have buildup of grime from backwash over door openings. Low temperature, chemical sanitizing dish machine is showing 0 ppm residual in final rinse. All equipment and utensils to be subject to a correctly mixed sanitizer on exit from machine until unit is repaired. No sign or poster posted at the hand-wash sink in the kitchen to remind food employees to wash their hands. Sign was provided to post. The eggs were moved to the bottom shelf of refrigerator during this inspection. The post can opener blade, a food contact surface, was observed to have food residue and was not clean to sight and touch. The post can opener was cleaned and sanitized during this inspection. Observed the florescent light in the prep area above the small bain marie with the shield not secured into the end cap.V &amp; J&#8217;s Hideaway, Inc., 29 Abbott St., Plains Township, Dec. 29. Regular inspection; in compliance.Bethel Hill Mini Mart, 1099 Bethel Hill Road, Shickshinny, Dec. 29. Change of owner; in compliance. Violations: The food facility does not maintain Food Employee Certification records as required. The facility does not have an employee with a valid Food Employee Certification. The owner stated that she will have an employee register and pay for a course within the next 10 days and then obtain the certificate within 90 days. The owner will e-mail this inspector or fax/mail to the Region 3 Field Office proof of registration and payment to take the course within 10 days. Upon receipt of the certificate, she will do the same. Observed a buildup of static dust on the fan guard inside of the Coca-Cola refrigeration unit. Food facility is using an approved non-public water system, but does not have current laboratory testing results for water potability. Review of water test results dated Dec. 9, 2015 revealed that e-coli and coliform were negative. The facility did not have results for Nitrate/Nitrite testing available. The facility sent a sample for nitrate/nitrites to Kirby Health Center on Dec. 28, 2015 and awaits the results. The owner will e-mail to this inspector or fax/mail the results to the Region 3 Field Office by Jan. 19, 2016.Boscov&#8217;s #009, 105 Laurel Mall, Hazle Township, Dec. 29. Regular inspection; in compliance. Violations: 2&#189; gallons of whole milk stored in walk-in cooler are expired. Milk disposed.
