The Eye Care Specialists coat drive for Head Start was once again very successful.Coats were delivered in December to the Beekman Street location and to the classrooms housed in the Church of Christ Uniting. Each child in the two classes were able to choose a brand new coat and gloves thanks to the efforts of staff, patients and community partners. The Penguins mascot, Tux, was on hand to assist with the distribution.The grand total this year was over 600 coats coming from Eye Care Specialists patients as well as a record number of new coats from the staff, optometrists, patients and community partners. The goal was to ensure every student in the two classrooms would receive a brand new coat. The accounting department opted to make a monetary donation instead of gift exchanging.The Wilkes-Barre Women&#8217;s Organization for Networking (WWON) group donated an entire classroom of coats. WWON is a non-profit organization comprised of women whose primary purpose is to support and refer to the other businesses in the group.Community Partner, Carrie Flower (Rich Soil Alliance), also worked with Eye Care Specialists donating many new coats from Humphrey&#8217;s in Shavertown. Rich Soil Alliance is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing the tools and education to empower the lives of children and their families.Eye Care Specialists also participated in the 2015 Grotto Pizza Parade of Trees at Harvey&#8217;s Lake. Their tree featured a purple and eyeball theme and all money raised went towards the purchase of additional coats for the Head Start coat drive.The Penguins fans also contributed by donating boxes full of coats at a Dec. 4 home game.
