Our Opinion: As Kirby Center approaches pearl anniversary, it hasn’t lost luster

<p>BELLEFONTE&#8212; The charity founded by convicted former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky has filed a court petition seeking permission to go out of business.</p><p><a href="http://bit.ly/1ZYttZ8" target="_blank">WJAC-TV reports</a> the Second Mile organization filed the 40-page petition in Centre County on Monday.</p><p>The charity&#8217;s board says fundraising has dropped to nothing and nearly all its assets have been distributed in the wake of Sandusky&#8217;s arrest and conviction on charges he molested several boys, including some he met through the charity.</p><p>The court filing formalizes the board&#8217;s decision in July to close the charity. The petition asks the court to transfer any remaining assets to the state attorney general&#8217;s office and to officially dissolve the charity.</p><p>Sandusky founded the group in 1977 with the stated purpose of helping disadvantaged children.</p><style>
