15th annual NEPA Home & Garden show Jan. 22-Jan. 24 to bring home-improvement experts, homeowners together

<p>Nick Pohlman said he started Nick&#8217;s Furniture Service in Mehoopany 18 years ago so he could use the skills he learned throughout his life to go into business on his own instead of working for somebody else. Nick&#8217;s Furniture Service, named after both its owner and one of the many forms of damage he repairs, serves Wyoming, Lackawanna and Luzerne counties with free pickup and free delivery.</p><p>Pohlman, who learned from Italian reproductionist and restorationist Enrico Liberti, is trained in wood turning and wood bending, along with refinishing, repair and restoration. He uses those skills today to restore antiques and to repair, strip and refinish furniture. He also refinishes kitchen cabinets and resilvers mirrors. Nick&#8217;s Furniture Service also offers wicker repair and finishing, chair caning, architectural finishing and water, smoke and fire repair.</p><p>&#8220;I love to take things that people say can&#8217;t be fixed or saved and restore or repair them,&#8221; Pohlman said. &#8220;Antiques are my specialty.&#8221;</p><p>Pohlman began working at Liberti&#8217;s Baltimore, Maryland, store, Chimney Corner Antique Shop, when he was 17. In the years that followed, Pohlman managed a reupholstering and refinishing company, ran a furniture factory and worked with an interior design business in Washington, D.C. that serviced the Pentagon, White House and The Watergate Hotel.</p><p>Today, Pohlman services antique shops, restaurants, hotels, museums and historical societies along with private homeowners and collectors. He is one of the vendors that will be at the 15th annual NEPA Home and Garden Show, set for Jan. 22-24 at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza.</p><p>Nick&#8217;s Furniture Service also repairs antique radios (if original parts can&#8217;t be found, duplicates will be made) and antique clocks (cases are cleaned or replaced and clockwork is cleaned and repaired as needed).</p><style>
