<p>A winter storm that is trekking across the country is expected to hit the eastern part of the United States this weekend.</p><p>According to <a href="http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/snow-storm-travel-disruptions-aim-for-nyc-dc-boston-philadelphia-friday-saturday/54870622" target="_blank">an article by AccuWeather, </a>the storm will bring the potential for heavy snowfall to impact more than 50 million people, including here in Northeastern Pennsylvania.</p><p>The exact track of the storm will determine which areas in the mid-Atlantic and southern New England are hit with heavy snow.</p><p>If the storm does fully develop and track off the mid-Atlantic and New England coasts, a blizzard could occur. The snowfall could last more than 24 hours in some locations.</p><p>PennDOT, however, is already making preparations for the storm.</p><p>PennDOT spokesman James May said that in Luzerne County, 50 plow trucks are ready to begin plowing the roadways, and another 38 temporary operators are also on standby.</p><p>May added that since high winds are also possible, chainsaws will also be ready in case trees fall across roadways.</p><p>May also anticipated that the incident command center would be activated as the storm moves into the area. May explained that when the command center is activated, a room typically used for the agency&#8217;s traffic management system is manned around the clock.</p><p>Referring to the center as a &#8220;hub of operations,&#8221; May said staff would man radios and watch traffic cams to determine where to dispatch resources.</p><p>&#8220;It sort of takes a higher level of urgency,&#8221; May said.</p><style>

No snowfall amounts have yet been predicted, and the high will be near 28.</p><p>Snow will be likely on Friday night, with a 60 percent chance of precipitation predicted, but no snowfall amounts have been predicted. The low will be around 22.</p><p>Snow will continue to be likely on Saturday, with a high near 27. Saturday night will bring a 30 percent chance of snow, with mostly cloudy skies expected otherwise. The low will be around 17.</p><p>Partly sunny skies will wrap up the weekend on Sunday, with a high near 29.
