PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Brown University says it will create a center for entrepreneurship with a $25 million gift it has received from a 1977 graduate who founded a private equity firm. The university on Tuesday announced it would open the Jonathan M. Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship, an interdisciplinary center for entrepreneurship learning and research. Nelson is CEO of Providence Equity Partners, which manages $45 billion in assets in sectors such as media, communications and education. Brown President Christina Paxson says the center is aimed at encouraging students to apply what they learn in the classroom to experiences working with entrepreneurs and developing their own ventures. Rhode Island School of Design students will be allowed to participate in activities at the center. Brown is in the middle of a $3 billion comprehensive fundraising campaign.
