Philadelphia convention organizers seek 10,000 volunteers

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Organizers of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia are looking for volunteers share their love of the City of Brotherly Love. In an op-ed in Wednesday's Philadelphia Inquirer (http://bit.ly/1SjNKWB), Mayor Jim Kenney and Former Gov. Ed Rendell say they hope to recruit as many as 10,000 volunteers to handle "a variety of tasks" before and during the event. They say it's "a great opportunity to show off all Philadelphia has to offer." Street festivals and tours are planned around the event, which opens July 25 at the Wells Fargo Center. They say "the convention will be the biggest party in town, and we need Philadelphians from across the city to help us host it." Philadelphia last hosted the Democrats in 1948, when the party's nomination went to President Harry Truman.
