Letter to the Editor: Put an end to ‘sick’ tax proposals in Harrisburg

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; U.S. Marshals have identified a man who was allegedly involved in a vehicle and foot pursuit this morning.</p><p>Assistant Chief Tony Nelson of the U.S. Marshals Service in Scranton identified the man as Jermaine McLean, 35, of Philadelphia.</p><p>Around 8:45 a.m. Friday, city police were asked to be on the lookout for a Chevrolet Malibu driven by a man wanted by the U.S. Marshals. Nelson explained that McLean was wanted for a parole violation and had a warrant for his arrest stemming from an assault.</p><p>According to police, the Wilkes-Barre Police Department Anti-Crime Unit, along with the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Unit, received information that McLean was in the area. City police also said that McLean eluded capture in Philadelphia in the past few days. City police also said he was wanted on felony drug charges.</p><p>Police began surveillance at a hotel of Kidder Street, which police observed McLean leave in a gray vehicle. Police said that when they located and attempted to stop the vehicle, McLean fled, nearly striking pursuing officers.</p><p>Police said they followed McLean onto Sherman Street, where he crashed his vehicle into another and fled on foot. The crash occurred in the area of North Sherman Street and Amber Lane near the Heights Murray Elementary School.</p><p>Police said McLean finally was taken into custody after a foot chase that ended in the area of Wilkes-Barre Boulevard and Coal Street. Police were seen placing McClean in the back of a police cruiser in the area of the Stegmaier Building.</p><p>A firefighter at the scene of the crash said that a woman and child in one of the vehicles involved were evaluated for treatment but not actually injured.</p><p>Brian Lavan, director of police operations for Wilkes-Barre Area School District, said that Heights Murray Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown from the time of the crash until the suspect was apprehended.</p><p>McClean was transported to police headquarters and arrested on his outstanding felony warrants. Police also said he will be facing additional charges in connection with the vehicle crash.</p><p>McClean has been jailed at the Luzerne County Correctional Facility pending further action in the Luzerne County Court of Common Pleas.</p><style>
