AVALON, Pa. (AP) — A man who may have been homeless has been killed by a produce truck on a highway leading to Pittsburgh. Allegheny County police say the victim didn't have identification and was walking in the northbound passing lane of Route 65 in Avalon when he was hit shortly after 3 a.m. Friday. Police say the driver didn't appear to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but his blood was drawn to confirm that. Witnesses say the man was walking near the middle of the highway before he was struck, even though there were clear sidewalks in the area. Police were working to identify the victim and reconstruct the accident. A woman tried CPR on the victim but was unable to save him.
