After 10 years, family of Patricia Moreton continue to call for justice

<p>WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8212; John Slaney walked onto the Mohegan Sun Arena ice and had a regret.</p><p>Slaney was inducted into the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Hall of Fame before Saturday&#8217;s game. After he accepted his plaque and shook hands with fellow hall of famers Kevin Blaum and Dennis Bonvie, he pulled on a throwback Wilkes-Barre/Scranton jersey with his old number, 26.</p><p>And that&#8217;s where the regret came in.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s unfortunate I didn&#8217;t get to wear it (again) before I finished my career. I would&#8217;ve loved to,&#8221; Slaney said.</p><p>Slaney spent parts of two seasons with the Penguins (1999-2001) and was an integral part of establishing the team in the area. He was traded at the all-star break in 2001 to the Phantoms and the only times he returned to the area was as an opposing player.</p><p>Slaney is an assistant coach with the Arizona Coyotes in the NHL. He flew back to the area on Friday night with his 14-year-old son, Tyler, who never got to see his father play for the Penguins.</p><p>Being able to share his hall of fame night with his son was special for Slaney.</p><p>And it brought back a lot of memories.</p><p>&#8220;I still remember the opening night here. The excitement. It brought so much life to the building,&#8221; Slaney said. &#8220;That&#8217;s what hockey&#8217;s all about.&#8221;</p><p>Ironically, as the Penguins played the Phantoms on Saturday, Slaney got to watch two of his former teams compete. He also got to witness it in front of a sold-out building, just like when he played for the Penguins years ago.</p><p>&#8220;Wilkes-Barre fans know how to get behind their team at the right moment. When I came here as a visitor for seven years we always said let&#8217;s try to keep the fans out of the game,&#8221; Slaney said.</p><p>On Saturday, Slaney was happy to have the fans be a part of his night.</p><p>&#8220;Every time you walk in this building the atmosphere makes you a better hockey player and a better person,&#8221; he said. &#8220;When you get recognized for your career and go into the Hall of Fame, that&#8217;s what you play for.&#8221;</p><style>

John Slaney dons Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins jersey once again
