Letter to the Editor: Which candidate will be our Dudley Do-Right?

Whether you are a hardworking registered voter of either party, you should brace yourself for more of the same with no change. Why?The majority in this country don&#8217;t want change. Why would they? They are people on entitlement, people who belong to stranglehold unions, people who are enrolled in state-sanctioned pensions. They are people who have children who go to college either free of charge or with special funding because of race or ethnic background. Students who apply for grants are immediately refused for so much as an application if they have no such background. They are people who are waiting for the Supreme Court to rule on President Obama&#8217;s executive action granting citizenship and the Dream Act to illegal immigrants. Just imagine a ravaged city like Baltimore, or any other large city, with generational entitlements, having those things taken away. You&#8217;d have nationwide riots.These people have been ingrained since birth to expect the federal government (you) to take care of them. I don&#8217;t fault them. It&#8217;s all they know and it&#8217;s hard to turn that around when it&#8217;s been the family business for generations. Change would be unacceptable for them.If those in power wanted to improve the lot of those people, they would locate factories in their neighborhoods, insist on discipline in their schools and demand that single mothers identify the fathers of their children. But how would that benefit those in power? It wouldn&#8217;t; so they keep the status quo.I know, they&#8217;ll blame the big banks and corporations for all of our ills, and a lot of that is true. Ford recently built one of its largest plants in Mexico with Mexican labor. According to FactCheck.org, GM operates 11 assembly plants and four power train plants in eight cities in China. This after GM and Chrysler were bailed out by our government to the tune of $22 billion.The obscene wages of the United Auto Workers, of up to $70 per hour, or over $100,000 per year, does make welfare benefits in the neighborhood of $60,000 tax-free per year seem paltry. A college graduate with a master&#8217;s degree, on the average, can expect to make $86,000 a year, according to study.com, if he can find a job. Unskilled workers, such as hospital aides, janitorial staffers, secretaries and drivers are eking out an existence on $15 per hour with no benefits. So we have those who don&#8217;t work, those who work for next to nothing and those basically uneducated who are making more than those with a master&#8217;s degree. These, the people in the middle, are people of despair and, yes, anger. Rightly so, because in spite of their situation, they are funding all of the perks for the other groups. These are people who are right on the threshold of making too much money to qualify for grants for their children for college. They simply fund everyone else but can&#8217;t reap any of the same benefits. These truly are the huddled masses, but sadly they are being outnumbered by those who being allowed to breathe free at their expense.Being uninterested in politics will hurt you and those like you. There are people all around you who are voting for change, but not necessarily the change that will benefit you.Vote and encourage everyone around you to vote for change too.Deanna Innamorati FarrellWest Wyoming
