Letter to the Editor: Tell state lawmakers to oppose new taxes on gas and oil industry

Every year in the Sports section of the newspaper there are articles and pictures of the Tunkhannock Coyote Hunt that seem to glorify the killing &#8211; by calling, baiting, driving and other means &#8211; of coyotes. These canines are close relatives of the family dog, killed for personal amusement purposes and for cash prizes.Cash prizes are considered &#8220;unethical&#8221; and &#8220;unsportsmanlike&#8221; by many hunters including the noted author and founder of The Hunters Institute, Jim Posewitz, whose book &#8220;Beyond Fair Chase&#8221; points out the lack of fairness in cash bounty hunts and also how such hunts are an ineffective means of predator control.With so many other worthwhile pursuits and charitable endeavors that one can use to fill their leisure time, filling that time by killing another intelligent animal that is not used for food just adds to the pointless violence, pain, suffering and death that our world is unfortunately already too full of and is, in my opinion, not a &#8220;sport.&#8221;Garry S.
