Robert and Gertrude Ann Mandak of 217 E 6th St., Hazleton, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a vow renewal service on Saturday, Jan. 30, at St. John&#8217;s Lutheran Church in Hazleton. Pastor Curtis Stevens officiated and John Simkovich was the organist. A dinner in the church hall followed.The Mandaks were married Jan. 29, 1966 at Diamond United Methodist Church. Robert is the son of the late Martin and Anna Mandak of Wilkes-Barre, and Gertrude is the daughter of the late Luther and Gertrude Hoffer of Hazleton.They are the parents of three sons, Robert Jr., fire driver and owner of Anthracite Area Tree Service; Brian, deputy fire chief, and adjunct professor at LCCC; and Michael, owner of Michael Mandak Tree Service.They have four granddaughters, two grandsons, one great-grandson, three step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.Mr. Mandak is a retired bus driver, having also worked in sales and industry. Mrs. Mandak is a retired pre-school teacher, currently serving as a foster grandmother at the Arthur St. School. Both have been very active volunteers through the years with Boy Scouts, Hazleton Fire Department, PAL basketball, Helping Hands Society and their church.
