PITTSBURGH (AP) — Officials say a fourth transplant patient who contracted a fungal infection during a mold outbreak at a western Pennsylvania hospital has died. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center on Sunday confirmed the death of 70-year-old Che DuVall, who was diagnosed with the infection a month after undergoing a double lung transplant in August. UPMC spokeswoman Alllison Hydzik said officials confirmed the death "with great sadness" and extended sympathies to his family and medical personnel who have cared for him. She said officials wanted to reassure patients that they have taken "every possible precaution to make our hospitals as safe as is humanly possible." DuVall and his wife had sued UPMC Presbyterian alleging that it recklessly housed him in a room that made him more susceptible to a mold infection.
